£1m makeover results in new office accommodation

The first phase of a £6.1m arts and business centre is being opened in Sunderland today. Three formerly derelict Georgian grade II listed townhouses in the Sunniside area of Sunderland city centre have benefited from a £1m makeover to turn them into office accommodation. Known as thePlace, it is hoped that the new offices will act both as a stimulus to Sunniside’s regeneration as well as a practical example of the type and quality of development the Sunniside Partnership wants to attract to the area. Sunniside Partnership chairman, Cllr Bob Symonds said: “Sunniside will play a vital role in the continuing regeneration of our city, and we all welcome this latest development attracting even more investment and talent into an area undergoing its own renaissance as more and more business return to the high quality offices and buildings it has to offer.” An open day is being held today for anybody interested in finding out more about the offices as well as the £2m project to breathe new life into Sunniside Gardens.
