North East Secures Record Nominations In Tourism Awards

North East tourism businesses have secured a record five nominations in a prestigious national tourism award programme.

Seafield Caravan Park in Seahouses, The Northumberland House, Longhoughton, the Discovery Museum, Newcastle Upon Tyne and Matfen Hall Hotel Golf Spa have all been shortlisted for the Enjoy Excellence in England Awards, with Matfen Hall Hotel Golf Spa nominated in two separate categories. The annual awards, regarded as the tourism equivalent of the Oscars are organised by VisitBritain and recognise UK tourism excellence in a number of areas. John Holmes, Director of Regeneration and Tourism at One NorthEast said; “This is the highest number of nominations North East England has ever received and the fact that nowhere else in the country has received more nominations than our region reflects the increasing quality and excellence throughout our tourism industry.

“To be shortlisted in five categories is testament to the hard work that the nominees have put in to making sure North East England can rival anywhere across England as a tourist destination.” Matfen Hall Hotel Golf Spa has been short listed for best Large Hotel and the Business Tourism Award. The Northumberland House near Alnwick is one of three finalists for the Self-catering category. Neville Hails at the Discovery Museum is named in the Outstanding Customer Service category while Seafield Caravan Park is in the running for best Caravan Park. The winners will be announced at a national awards ceremony that will take place in Madame Tussauds on the 20th April 2006.
