'Shut up, I know where I'm going!'

Time for stressed drivers everywhere fume ‘I told you so!’: backseat drivers – whether real or in the form of sat-nav – have been found to impede driving skills. Psychologists from Manchester Metropolitan University have found that following directions from a co-driver or in-car navigation system takes significantly more mental effort for drivers. The research was conducted using a driving simulator, but for the next round of tests the scientists will use a real car. Presumably worried for the safety of bickering car occupants, a spokesperson for the researchers explained “for safety reasons the experiments will take place on a private race track in Anglesey”.
