Virtual Tour Opens Northumberland Beauty To the World

People across the world will now be able to take a virtual tour of some of Northumberland National Park’s most beautiful landscapes, thanks to a new web project by a North East technology company. Launched in a bid to boost tourism to the area, www.northumberland-national-park.org.uk uses immersive imaging technology to transform hundreds of photographs into interactive tours.Â

The resulting tours, created by North Shields-based The Virtual Tour Group, are designed to make users feel like they are actually inside the scene, and also give them total control within it – they can pan, tilt, zoom and even look up or down in order to fully experience the various sights. The VR tours available include Thirlwall Castle, Hareshaw Bridge, Peel Crags and Bellingham, a peaceful village that overlooks the North Tyne Valley.

Duncan Wise, Team Leader for Visitor Services at Northumberland National Park Authority, believes the virtual tours will contribute to a dramatic increase in the numbers of people visiting the area. He says: “We’re delighted with the tours that The Virtual Tour Group have created. They really capture the beauty of Northumberland National Park and will help bring it to life. “The virtual tours cover some of the high spots of the National Park, from Hadrian’s Wall to the Cheviots and include special places in the North Tyne and Coquet valleys. I’m sure that we’ll see visitor numbers to the area increase further as a result of the tours, and I think that people all over the world will be delighted to be able to experience such incredible landscapes.”
