One stop-shop for North East students

Students at a North East university can now get access to a new multi-million pound centre aimed at making life easier for them. The £3.5m ‘Gateway’ building has opened its doors at the University of Sunderland, offering its students a one-stop- shop for all student services.

Previously students had to cover miles going from one building to another to register for things like accommodation, course registration, finance and Student Union membership. The new building brings everything together in one central location. It is expected that around 8,000 full-time students will pass through the centre’s doors during the first two weeks of term.

Sue Reece, Director of Recruitment and Admissions at the university, said: “Naturally, our students are at the heart of everything we do, so we’re always looking at ways to help them get the most out of campus life. The new Gateway will make life significantly easier for them, with everything they need under one roof.”

Departments in the new centre include the Careers and Employability Service, Residential Services, Student Recruitment and Admissions, the Student Office, Disability Support, the Health and Welfare team, the Students’ Union, the Chaplaincy Service, Financial Advice and Guidance and Payments.
