Competition opens up space for business

The North East Business and Innovation Centre (BIC) aims to enhance its reputation of nurturing science and technology companies by offering a discount of up to £2,500 on the rental value of its incubator labs.

David Howell, BIC director of operations, said: “As the founding partner of Sunderland Science Park, the BIC is committed to supporting science and technology entrepreneurs in the region. “The BIC is home to 160 businesses of all sizes, and our complex includes a range of cutting edge science labs which provide an ideal base for new businesses to grow and prosper.”

The BIC’s science labs include climate control, 24/7 access and security, multiple power and data outlets, and recessed modular light fittings as standard. Access to broadband, ISP services and digital telecoms, industrial standard sinks, Trespa Athlon work/draw units and fresh/extract ventilation are also featured in all the labs.

Mr Howell added: “The discount is specifically targeted at business start up companies in a science related sector who can demonstrate a passion for enterprise and innovation. All science sectors will be considered including: healthcare technology, medical services, diagnostics and research & development.”

To apply for the discount simply email a copy of your business plan to David Howell at david.howell@ne-bic.co.uk.
