NE company in NY investment pitch
A North East company has made it through to the finals of an investment pitch process which will see it vying for international investment funds in New York later this month.
E-Learning specialist deBurca of Sedgefield won through to the New York finals beating competition from 154 other European companies in pre-qualification rounds. deBurca will be the only UK representative and one of only nine European companies through to the finals event in New York, which is run by the Seed Forum International Foundation. The all-day event, which takes place at the Marco Polo Club in the Waldorf Astoria Hotel, New York on 16 November, will see deBurca pitching for investment in its web based e-learning content marketplace, lovle, which was developed from a prototype produced with the aid of the North East Proof of Concept Fund.
Joscelyn Upendran, business development director at deBurca says: “We see this as an exciting opportunity, especially to get to this stage of the proceedings. “It is such an opportunity and the stakes are so high that, prior to travelling to New York, we have had to take part in pitch training. On the day there will be a 30-second power-pitch, followed by a longer 7-minute pitch and then a questions and answer session. We have to get it right and the training is proving invaluable. “We are delighted to be representing the UK at such a high-profile event in New York. Since the events began back in 2002, around one in three of the companies pitching for investment have achieved their goals and found a good investment partner.”
