North East film industry given cutting edge
A North East based company is opening its postproduction services to outside agencies in a bid to cultivate growth and bring moviemakers to the region. With local MPs and cultural centres currently calling for the North East to be recognised as a major UK film location, Veritas Broadcast hopes that its £1 million facilities will help to highlight filmmaking services available in the region.
The North East has already served as the backdrop for films such as Get Carter, Harry Potter, and most recently the Second World War feature Atonement. Now the film industry will be able to take advantage of the region’s great locations as well as wrapping production on site with Veritas.
The new Gateshead-based facilities include two final cut pro edit suites, a Quantel QEdit pro high-end suite, and Studio Mac 3D Graphics, with a shared area network incorporating five terabytes of storage. The suites can be used with or without a Veritas editor present, and can accommodate film, television, advertising, animation or corporate work.
Tony Hazell, MD at Veritas Broadcast, said: “We are thrilled to be helping in the effort to promote the region to the film industry. Our aim in opening the suite to outside companies is to show that you don’t need to be in London to have access to excellent postproduction facilities. “We hope that regional, national and international filmmakers will carry on using the fantastic locations available in the North East, and that we can continue to help grow fantastic local talent.”
Veritas will officially open its facilities today at a launch reception to be attended by figures from the region’s film, creative and business sectors.
