North East charities receive £500,000 from Postcode Lottery

Charities in the North East have received over half a million pounds from the UK Postcode Lottery, according to the latest figures. Since launching last August the Lottery has benefited six ongoing causes and many individual ‘Charity Projects of the Month’ via its charitable arm, Good Fund.

These permanent beneficiaries include: Children North East, Just for Kids, Make A Child Smile, The Sunshine Fund, The Missing Persons’ Helpline and Groundwork. Ecological schemes such as Groundwork’s first eco business centre in County Durham, The Greenhouse, have also benefited. Kate Culverhouse, executive director at Groundwork West Durham & Darlington, said: “At a time of increasing global pressure on resources, we are very excited about such an innovative and unique new build.”

Charity Projects of the Month have included new Exmoor Ponies for Northumberland Wildlife Trust, a new valeting training facility at Dilston College, Northumberland and a new Sensory Room for toddlers at the Percy Hedley Foundation. Des Bustard, Director of Fundraising at the Percy Hedley Foundation, said, “We are extremely grateful to all the Postcode Lottery players in the North East for helping us create such a stimulating and fun environment for children with very special needs.”
