Charitable alternative to Christmas cards

A young people’s charity is urging Tees Valley businesses to forego the tradition of sending Christmas cards and instead go online to send an e-card – and a charitable donation. Fairbridge Teesside works with 13 to 25 years-olds from marginalized, disaffected and vulnerable groups, deemed ‘at risk’ because of their behaviour or personal circumstances. The young people are involved in a programme of activities and learning designed to develop core personal and social skills, as well as secondary life-skills including independent living skills, recreation and community skills, and work-based skills.

Fairbridge’s Anne-Marie Wadsworth says: “There’s a lot of pressure on people’s finances at this time of year, so rather than adding to the cost of Christmas, we are simply asking people to approach one of the great Christmas traditions – namely sending a card – a little differently this year. “Sending an e-card is quick and easy, it saves having to physically stamp and post the cards – and it’s better for the environment. And, of course, you also help a worthy cause such as ourselves.”
