New film 'Gets' Carter

North East-set movie Get Carter has been updated for the 21st century in more ways than one this month. Jack’s Trip, screening at Waygood’s Little Jewel Cinema, is an adaptation of the opening and closing sequences of the seminal gangster movie. The short film was also screened as part of Northern Lights Film Festival, who opened their festival with a screening of the original Get Carter film and a remix by Addictive TV.

Helen Smith, Director of Waygood Gallery & Studios said: “I choose Jack’s Trip as part of the Little Jewel Cinema season because I particularly liked the drawing and animation. It has a unique and witty take on Get Carter and what better place to watch it than on the streets on Newcastle at Waygood’s Little Jewel ‘peephole’ Cinema.”

Cliff Sainsbury, who made the short film, said: “Get Carter is possibly my favourite film of all time, which is why I based the ‘Jack’s Trip’ animation on it. To be associated with the film in this way is a great honour for me. The animation itself was very difficult to put together as I used an old technique known as rotoscope to give it its feel, but the hard work has definitely paid off.”

Jack’s Trip can be seen between 10am-10pm Thursday 7 – Wednesday 13 December at Waygood’s Little Jewel ‘peephole’ cinema located in the former empty shop front at 31 High Bridge Street. See www.waygood.org for more details.
