Tees Valley impresses European visitors

A group of Belgian journalists sampled the delights of the Tees Valley last week. The trip, organised by Visit Teesvalley and Eastern Airways, was arranged to encourage Belgian business and travel writers to promote the new service from Brussels to Durham Tees Valley Airport. The guests arrived on the airline’s North East England branded aircraft, which is part of regional development agency One NorthEast’s ‘Passionate people. Passionate places’ campaign, designed to help raise the region’s profile across the UK and into Europe.

A 2-day whistle-stop tour was planned to show the best that the Tees Valley has to offer, with the intention of impressing upon the visitors the high standards of hospitality and facilities in the area. The visit included a tour of Hartlepool’s Maritime Experience followed by lunch, with a presentation from Dr Ian MacKinnon from the North East Process Industry Cluster (NEPIC) who spoke about Tees Valley’s international industries and business opportunities linked with Brussels.

Darren Roberts, Eastern Airways’ Communications Manager, said: “We are providing a strategically important air service from one of Europe’s most influential cities to Tees Valley’s industrial heartland, to meet demand from leading businesses at both ends of the route. As well as attracting business travellers to the service, this trip has also shown that the region has lots to offer leisure travellers taking short breaks in North East England.”
