Celebrity launch for charity campaign

County Durham Foundation’s Christmas gift card campaign was launched in style this week when Professor David Bellamy OBE helped to plant a tree in a local community garden. The foundation has created a Christmas Gift Shop which allows individuals and companies to help their local communities by sending personalised Christmas cards and gifts ranging from football kit for a village team at £10, to a down payment on a flat for a homeless person. Botanist and broadcaster Professor Bellamy helped pupils from Montalbo School in Barnard Castle plant a tree in their story telling garden, one of the gifts available to buy to support the charity.

Professor Bellamy said: “It’s absolutely fabulous the work which County Durham Foundation do. I’ve had the pleasure of working with them on many occasions and each time they impress me with how they help people in their area. “The Christmas Gift Card scheme is an ideal way to contribute something to your own local community and to buy a gift for those you care about during the festive season.”

Gifts are split into four categories: children and young people, education and learning, isolated people and strong and healthy communities. Prices range from £5 to over £500 and there are eight different traditional card designs and two eCards to choose from which can be seen on their website at www.cdfgiftshop.org.uk.
