Awards served up for Durham restaurant
Oldfields Restaurant has triumphed at the inaugural Durham Retail Awards, scooping both Restaurant of the Year and Retailer of the Year. The event, launched by Marketing Durham, attracted around 400 people and saw Oldfields beat off competition from some of the city’s most high profile businesses including restaurants, bars and retailers.
Richard Toynbee, Chairman of Marketing Durham, said: “Oldfields offer something truly unique. Their passion for providing locally sourced, high quality ingredients coupled with first-class service has really helped put the city on the map as a top culinary destination.”
Situated on Claypath in Durham city centre and Osborne Road in Jesmond, Newcastle, Oldfields Restaurants have gained a reputation as providers of innovative organic dishes. The restaurants qualified as Farmer’s Weekly Food Miles Heroes, with all dishes served calculating the amount of miles the food has travelled, and three of Oldfields’ chefs made it to the finals of this year’s North East Chef of the Year Awards.
Peter Wood, Operations Director, said: “We are thrilled with both awards though it’s simply amazing we’ve managed to beat Durham’s retail giants. This year we’ve really invested in the business; developing our products, services and marketing and launching the Campaign for Real Food so it’s great to see all the hard work pay off.”
