Airport plans 'good news' for North East

The decision by Darlington Councillors to support plans for the expansion and development of Durham Tees Valley Airport have been welcomed by the Airport’s Managing Director as “great news for our future, our customers, and the economic prospects of the whole area.”

Mr Hugh Lang was speaking following the decision by members of Darlington Planning Committee to approve an application involving major improvements and expansion to the Airport terminal, together with related facilities including new aircraft stands, apron area and taxiway. Last week Stockton Council’s Planning Committee also supported the application for the terminal and related developments.

Mr Lang said: “This is a very good day not just for Durham Tees Valley Airport but the whole community and everyone involved in driving forward the economic regeneration of our area. “Our plans will enable the Airport to handle up to three million passengers a year, delivering the twenty-first-century facilities demanded by both passengers and airlines, enabling us to continue our drive to attract more business and an ever-increasing range of services.”

It is hoped that the developments will create 2,500 jobs as well as providing a multi-million pound boost to the local economy.
