Tony Blair event raises thousands for charity

A North East charity is celebrating this week after receiving thousands of pounds raised at an event attended by the Prime Minister. Non-profit enterprise education provider Young Enterprise North East (YENE) was the chosen charity to be sponsored by the CBI North East’s annual dinner which was held at the Newcastle Marriot Hotel in October. The night, which featured Tony Blair as a guest speaker, raised £2,712 for YENE from the raffle proceeds. The money will be used to sponsor the Young Enterprise Primary Masterclass Programme at All Saints College in Newcastle.

Catherine Marchant, Chief Executive of YENE, said: “We are delighted to have received such a huge donation from the CBI North East, this money will go far into inspiring the workforce and possible entrepreneurs of the future in the Masterclass programme at All Saints College. We are really dependent on donations from regional businesses to keep our vital service going as the future economic prospects of the region are dependent upon the ability of young people to be enterprising and to adapt to dynamic business needs.”

Sarah Green, regional director of the CBI said: “The CBI believes that it is critical to the future of business that companies engage with young people and demonstrate the opportunities available for good, interesting jobs in the North East. Supporting young enterprise in delivering programmes in schools is an excellent way of doing this.”
