Food and Drink festival heads for Sunderland
The best of the region’s food and drink will be on the menu later this year when the North East Food and Drink Show returns. The event will take place on September 14 and 15 at Sunderland’s Rainton Meadows Arena.
The organisers hope to build on the success of last year’s inaugural show and have extended the event to two days to cater for both trade and consumer visitors. The first day of the show will be for trade guests only and Saturday 15 dedicated to consumers. Any producers or visitors interested in attending this year’s show are urged to register their interest early by visiting www.nefoodanddrinkshow.com.
Tracy Skinner, organiser of the North East Food and Drink Show 2007, said: “Last year’s event was highly successful in highlighting the diversity and quality of the region’s food and drink industry and many producers were able to win new business. “We wanted to make this year’s event even better and have decided to open the show up to consumers so that they can find out all about the great products available on their doorstep. It will really whet appetites ahead of British Food Fortnight the following week.”
Worth more than £3billion a year and employing over 40,000 workers, food and drink is a growing industry in the North East and has recently been identified as a priority sector by Regional Development Agency One North East.
