Lawyers and housing agency join cleanup crew

Staff from two local companies joined together recently in an effort to clean up a Tees Valley beck to help nature thrive. Approximately 30 volunteers from both Tees Valley Housing Group and Dickinson Dees, as well as Tees Valley Wildlife Trust and Middlesbrough Council, agreed to get their hands dirty for the beck-clearing day next to the Parkside, in Marton.

The beck has an ongoing litter problem, so when Dickinson Dees mentioned to its clients at TVHG that it was looking to get involved in such a project, David Francis, neighbourhood manager at North Ormesby, set about arranging the day. Tees Valley Wildlife Trust advised the area would benefit from being cleared to help creatures including water voles and kingfishers to thrive. Middlesbrough Council was brought on board as the agency responsible for the area.

David Francis, neighbourhood manager for Tees Valley Housing Group, said: “This was a very worthwhile project because, without help from volunteers, this area would suffer badly from the problems of litter and overgrowing vegetation. Sometimes it takes partnerships such as the one we have here to pull the people together to do something which really makes a difference to an area such as this.”
