A new way to network

A new business network designed to offer an alternative to traditional networking events has been set up to benefit Newcastle and Gateshead-based businesses. The newly formed North East Chamber of Commerce (NECC) Gateshead Business Forum will offer networking events with a difference for people with small to medium-sized businesses. This will include opportunities to learn more about how to do business with the public sector, help to take advantage of the 2012 Olympics, advice on how to trade internationally, how to maintain a healthy workforce and celebrating the achievements of young people.

Bill McGawley, MD of TDR Training and Chair of the Gateshead Business Forum, said: “There are many networking opportunities available to businesses in Newcastle and Gateshead, but not all offer people the opportunity to hone their networking skills in a relaxed, lively and fun environment.”

Rob McMullen, NECC’s Policy and Representation Manager for Tyne and Wear, said: “The forum still allows us to discuss policy issues and pass over information, but in a more relaxed environment than our normal committee meetings, and networking will be a major focus of the forum.”

The first meeting starts at 4.30pm Tuesday 13 February at the Angel View Inn, Low Eighton, Gateshead. Andrea Tickner, head of procurement at Gateshead Council, and Peter Moran of Step-Change will be on hand to advise on how to do business with the public sector and getting involved with e-commerce. Resident networking guru and drafter of wills, Robin Ramsay, will be providing tips about networking.
