Young entrepreneurs bag Young Enterprise awards

Schools from across the region swept the board at the annual Young Enterprise North East (YENE) Trade Fair at the Metro Centre this weekend winning awards for their business initiatives as part of their Young Enterprise Programmes. A record 45 student companies set out their stalls to compete in the seven Young Enterprise categories, selling a wide range of innovative products.

The young tycoons are taking part in the Young Enterprise Company, Team (special needs) or Graduate programmes, which saw them set up a real trading company and learn all about business in the process. The companies were judged on their business models on the day by members of the local business community including, Kate Welch of Acumen Community Enterprise Development Trust, Sharon Platt from Sage UK, Suzanne Henty of Business Link Tees Valley and Kate Partridge of The Bridge Club.

Catherine Marchant, chief executive of Young Enterprise North East, said: “We had a record 45 student companies set out their stalls at the Trade Fair, selling a wide range of creative and enterprising products. All of the schools were great contenders and it was a real achievement for them to make it to the Trade Fair to learn about selling in the ‘real life’ trading world. “Overall the judges were impressed with the high standard achieved from all schools involved and we want to again thank everyone involved for the support Young Enterprise has received from local schools and businesses.”
