NanoMaterials07 puts the North East in the spotlight

The first European conference on the commercialisation of nanomaterials is to be held at The Sage Gateshead on April 30 and May 1 this year. NanoMaterials07 hopes to draw some of the biggest companies in the world to the region with internationally renowned experts speaking about the opportunities and difficulties facing their markets in the commercialisation of nanomaterials. Among the speakers involved in the conference are representatives from GlaxoSmithKline, Cambridge University, IDTechEx and Bayer.

The event is being hosted by NanoCentral, a not-for profit organisation based at the Wilton Centre in Tees Valley. NanoCentral was created to accelerate the commercialisation of value-adding nanomaterials. They aim to increase awareness of competitive advantages to be gained through nanomaterials, and access targeted Safety, Health and Environmental advice. The organisation believes that the North East can benefit from the development of nanomaterials due to its strengths in the process industry.

Stephen Cash, Chief Executive of NanoCentral, said: “We are really proud to be holding this conference. As well as promoting the commercialisation of nanomaterials it will also draw attention to the North East and highlight its importance in this process. “The more activity we can generate in nanomaterials, the more jobs we can create in the region and beyond.”
