Sword swallowing can be dangerous to your health

Here at bdaily Towers, we’re all in favour of research. Universities and businesses all over the world conduct surveys and investigations all the time which provide interesting and useful information about the world we live in and the way it works. But sometimes, the topics of the research might make you think these people have too much time on their hands. Case in point: the British Medical Journal has published a report carried out by the Gloucestershire NHS Trust brilliantly titled “Sword swallowing and its side effects”. A copy of the report can be found at the PubMed Central website.

The report actually contains the phrase “Sore throats – ‘sword throats’” and a link to the sword swallowers hall of fame. The conclusion of the report, rather unsurprisingly, is that putting large, sharp, metal objects down your throat may result in injury, particularly if you are distracted whilst doing do. Time well spent!
