Conference aims to find future leaders of North East rural areas

Forward-thinking people who care passionately about the future of the region’s rural areas are urged to attend a conference that aims to turn real ideas and aspirations into a rural manifesto to tell the Government what the North East’s communities can do.

The North East Rural Conference takes place at The Wynyard Rooms, Tees Valley, on Thursday 8 March and will feature speeches from those who are passionate about rural issues. The conference will culminate with a rural debate – a professionally facilitated discussion bringing the issues from the day’s workshops into the wider forum.

David Stewart, chairman of the North East Rural Affairs Forum, said: “It is a critical time for everybody that cares about rural communities with rural services declining and rural communities getting older and I feel there is a real appetite for rural stakeholders to come out and start playing the regional development game, as in the midst of all of this there are brilliant new businesses plus dynamic and enthusiastic communities taking charge of their lives and doing their best for the region and their families. “Forward looking, courageous people are needed to attend this conference to encourage an open and honest debate on our rural futures which will hopefully be transpired in future policy and therefore action.”

Registration for the event closes on 1 March and all places will be allocated in advance so those wishing to apply must register at www.ne-ruralaffairsforum.org.uk.
