Last chance to bid on blind auction

People in the North East are being offered a final opportunity to bid for a limited edition Gerald Laing print from his landmark ‘Iraq War Paintings’ series, helping rebuild the lives of young Iraqis at the same time.

Newcastle-born Gerald Laing has donated three prints from his ‘Iraq War Paintings’ to raise money for the Independent Film and Television College in Baghdad, the first of its kind in Iraq. Despite extraordinarily difficult circumstances, it was set up in Baghdad in 2004 and provides free-of-charge intensive short courses in film and television technique, theory and production. The college enables young people to document their world, in their words.

The Iraq War Paintings are at Globe City until this Saturday 3 March 2007 alongside short films made by students of the Independent Film and Television College in Baghdad. The exhibition marks 43 years since Laing’s debut at The Laing Art Gallery in 1963.

Bids will be taken by phone up until 5pm or by email up until midnight on Saturday. The highest bidder will be contacted at the end of the exhibition. To view paintings either visit Globe Gallery or visit www.geraldlaing.com.
