Perfume plant is the business for students

Students from Newcastle College have been acquiring a nose for business at Procter & Gamble’s Seaton Delaval site. The 15 GCSE Business students from Newcastle College visited the site, as part of their course, to get a glimpse into the world of business. After a talk on the operating procedures of the plant, the students were given the opportunity to grill the P&G professionals about the business and swot up for their exams.

Vicky Charlton, Business GCSE teacher at Newcastle College, said: “This trip has been fantastic for the students to see what they’ve been learning about in action – it’s a great opportunity for them to get an insight into the business and to understand how theories I teach them in the classroom work out here on the factory floor.”

The students were also taken on a tour of the plant and were able to see the complete process – from the production of the hair care and perfume through to the packaging of the product on the factory lines.

Barbara Ellis, P&G Seaton Delaval’s Community Matters coordinator, said: “It’s great to be able to show young people what we do here and the students were really enthusiastic. “On-site visits like these are part of our wider Community Matters programme, which ranges from our staff going into local schools and taking classes on subjects from Science to French, to donating products to local charities.”
