Pupils experience ethical enterprise

Secondary school pupils from across the North East are being invited to find out more about working in an ethical business. Two one-day events, ‘Putting Ethics Into Enterprise’, have been organised by Yarm-based Young Co-operatives, which helps school pupils to start their own fair trade co-operatives.

The events feature a range of hands-on activities and workshops from fair trade smoothie making and T-shirt printing to co-operative artwork and Columbian fruit cocktail making. Pupils will also be able to hear from young people in the region who have successfully started their own businesses and find out what help is available.

Young Co-operatives is also looking for schools to sign up to its Big Tea Design Challenge, where pupils can create their own brand of fair trade tea bags. Schools are provided with the tea bags free of charge, get to work with a professional design agency and can keep any proceeds from the sale of their tea.

The events run from 10am–3pm on Wednesday 28 March at The National Glass Centre in Sunderland and Thursday 29 March at Nature’s World, Middlesbrough.
