What's in your handbag?
Two North East businessmen are asking women for the contents of their handbags this month as part of an art installation which will be taking place at The Art Works Galleries, Newcastle. The idea is that men simply can’t help but wonder what women fill these voluminous fashion accessories with. The inspiration for the project reportedly came when resident artist and co-director of The Art Works Galleries Matt Forster and public relations consultant Paul Easton asked their respective partners what was in their bags. As the ladies emptied their bags onto a large table Matt and Paul discovered a hidden insight into their other halves’ personalities.
Matt said: “We believe you can tell a lot about a women and her lifestyle just through the content of her handbag. Paul and I have decided to put this theory to the test as part of a unique art instillation delving into the depths of a women’s prized possession.”
Paul said: “We want 25 women to come forward from all backgrounds, religions and ethnicities and show us your bag, we want them to be as they always would, i.e. unedited – we want to see everything from the slightly solid tissue to the emergency Tampax. “The contents of each handbag will then be photographed and exhibited in The Art Works Galleries to discover if you can really tell all about somebody’s lifestyle without ever meeting them.”
If you would like to be involved in this unique opportunity or for further information please contact Matt Forster on 0191 261 9922 or Paul Easton on 01670 789 990.
