Sunderland helps region receive national honour

The University of Sunderland’s innovative automotive centre has helped the region receive national recognition for its support of British industry. The university’s Institute for Automotive and Manufacturing Advanced Practice (AMAP) helped the North East Productivity Alliance (NEPA) get shortlisted for the Best of British Industry Awards.

NEPA was awarded third place for its continued support of British industry. It was the only programme from the North East to make it into the finals of the national awards. The award, in the Supporting British Industry section, recognised the university’s and NEPA’s contribution to industry by helping companies to improve productivity, be more competitive by using new technologies, increasing skills and fostering the development of a research culture.

Judges, including former Director General of the CBI Sir Digby Jones, said NEPA’s initiatives had made a ‘demonstrable difference’ to the industry’s performance.
