Egg and soldiers with a difference
The traditional tea-time treat of egg and soldiers is being given a luxury makeover at Paramount Redworth Hall Hotel this Easter. The Newton Aycliffe hotel is ensuring that for one lucky visitor an Easter egg is going to last far longer than usual – and be far more valuable.
The hotel is running a competition to win a genuine Faberge egg over the holiday weekend. Two real life soldiers, from the Territorial Army HQ in Newton Aycliffe, have been drafted in – in advance of the event – to guard the gorgeous miniature egg which is worth more than £700.
Faberge eggs date back to the 18th century and were first produced for one of the Russian Czars by his wife. It became a tradition for a new one to be created every year and they are now seen as highly prized and extremely valuable.
This miniature egg is the prize on offer as part of a treasure hunt which is running on Easter Sunday. Guests who have lunch or afternoon tea on Easter Sunday will be given the chance to enter the hunt, leading to the unique prize which comes with a certificate of authenticity.
