40,000 visitors see mima's opening show

The opening show at Middlesbrough’s new art gallery has attracted 40,000 visitors to date, it was announced yesterday. Following a public launch and firework display on 27 January, visitors have flocked to mima to see the Draw show. As well as visiting the exhibitions, visitors have enjoyed a range of activities at mima. From school visits and workshops, adult drawing classes and talks by artists, as well as the many activities arranged for kids and families and several high profile corporate hire events, mima has been full of activity since its doors opened.

Godfrey Worsdale, Director of mima said: “We are delighted with the fantastic reception we have received so far. We hope that as many people as possible will come and visit mima and make full use of the range of exhibitions, activities and facilities we have to offer. “We are keen to build on our successes so far, establishing mima both as a leading international art gallery and a real icon of positive regeneration for Middlesbrough and the North East region.”

Visitors have just a few weeks left to catch mima’s first ever exhibition that brings works by Picasso, Matisse, Warhol and Damien Hirst to Middlesbrough. Draw is presented at mima until 22 April. For more information visit www.visitmima.com.
