Brick Works builds on success

Newcastle’s newest creative workspace is set to open next month in the Ouseburn Valley. The Brick Works is the latest addition to the creative uprising of Newcastle’s east end, and will house all manner of creative individuals and businesses, including graphic designers, painters, film makers and sculptors. This new development is the next chapter in the Mushroom Works story. Local creative entrepreneur Nick James recently bought the disused warehouse in Byker to add to the existing success of Mushroom Works.

Nick James commented: “I’m really pleased with the way the business has built up over the first two years and I am amazed with the growth of Mushroom Works into another building so soon. There is huge demand for creative workspace in the North East, in particular affordable spaces created with artists and makers in mind.”

The refurbishment of the Brick Works has been supported by TyneWear Partnership single programme funding which was essential to the development of this project.

George Snaith, Executive Director of TyneWear Partnership said: “There is a great need for good quality, affordable studio spaces in the North East. The opening of the Brick Works is great news for artists in the region. The Brick Works is an exciting development in the cultural and creative history of the North East and in particular the Ouseburn Valley, which plays a very important role for the creative industries in the region.”
