Tumbling Dice rolls out ?Fedora coLinux? in download format
A Newcastle-based software company made its latest product available for download over the Internet yesterday. Tumbling Dice’s Fedora coLinux product, which allows users to view and interact with both Microsoft and Linux-based applications on the same system at the same time, was previously only available on DVD.
Programmers have reportedly hailed Fedora coLinux as a breakthrough because it is easy to install, easy to use, includes full Linux functionality based on Fedora Core and comes complete with a manual – overcoming inherent problems with other coLinux products, the installation of which has always been considered too complex for anyone but an expert.
Dr Mark O’Neill, co-founder of Tumbling Dice, said: “Linux is a great system for technical users who use a lot of databases, scientific codes, spreadsheets and so on – whereas Windows is better for the average user. CoLinux enables users to concurrently run a Linux virtual machine on Microsoft operating systems like Windows XP. “CoLinux is available elsewhere, but our Fedora coLinux product comes in an easy-to-install package.”
Tumbling Dice is a member of Codeworks Connect, the trade association for the North East’s digital industries.
Herb Kim, CEO of Codeworks, said: “North East England is home to some of the most productive and successful software companies in Europe. Tumbling Dice are yet another example of the innovative solutions coming out of the region. Linux is a hugely versatile system, but the prohibitive costs involved in running it as well as a Windows operating system have always put many off implementing it in their business. This new coLinux product from Tumbling Dice gets around that problem, and better yet you don’t need to be a genius to implement it.”
