Acas runs workshops to help with flexible working changes
Acas, the employment relations service, is running a workshop on Wednesday 9 May at the Thistle Hotel in Middlesbrough to help employers understand and implement changes which came in to effect under the Work and Families Act this month. There are around 1.6 million employees in th UK providing some kind of unpaid care, and so Acas are inviting employers and employees in the North East along to a session that specifically covers the new right to request flexible working for those who have caring responsibilities. There are also changes for working parents with increased rights when taking maternity, adoption and paternity leave. Information on the changes and the new Acas good practice guide, ‘Flexible working and work-life balance’, are available at www.acas.org.uk.
Wendy Parker, Area Director for Acas in the North East said: “Whether you are a parent or you have caring responsibilities you now have new rights, so it is important to understand what this means in practice to avoid any confusion or misunderstandings. The workshops are designed for anyone in the workplace who feels the changes may have some impact on their working lives. Our good practice guidance gets to the heart of the issues and can make it easier to implement changes.”
Two workshops sessions are to be held on Wednesday 9 May. The first session is for employers and will run from 11am–12.30pm and costs £20 +VAT. The second session is for employees and runs from 1.30pm–2.30pm and is free of charge. To book a place on either session, vist www.acas.org.uk, e-mail newcastleevents@acas.org.uk or telephone 0191 269 6043.
