Hina is jewel of the North
A senior lecturer at Newcastle Business School (NBS), part of Northumbria University, has been nominated for a national award recognising her contribution to society as a Briton of Asian descent. Dr Hina Khan has been put forward for the ‘Healthcare and Education’ category of the Lloyds TSB Asian Jewel Awards. The award highlights the inspirational work being undertaken by British Asians working in healthcare and education throughout the UK, and Dr Kahn is one of only four nominees to reach the northern finals.
As programme leader of ‘Business with Marketing’ at NBS, Hina has written several papers on product consumption and international consumer buying behavior. But it is her work in the recent ‘Aimhigher’ national campaign to get young people from low-income backgrounds into higher education that has landed her a nomination for the Asian Jewel Award.
Dr Kahn said: “It is humbling just to be nominated but to win would be a fantastic recognition of the work that I’ve done, especially as it has been voted for by my peers within the industry. I’ll be taking my parents along to the ceremony and some of my colleagues will be joining us as well.”
Later this year, NBS will relocate to form a major part of Northumbria University’s new state-of-the art City Campus East premises on the site of the old Manors Cinema. For more information about Newcastle Business School call 0191 243 7070 or visit www.newcastlebusinessschool.co.uk.
