Do not pass Go...

The North East is suffering – in Monopoly terms, anyway. Toy company Hasbro is developing a UK version of the famous board game, with UK towns and cities in place of the streets from the regular Monopoly board. Britons are being asked to vote for their favourite city online at monopoly.co.uk, with positions on the board being decided by the amount of votes each town or city receives – the town or city with the most votes will take pride of place in the Mayfair slot, and some unfortunate will have to languish on Old Kent Road.

However, after a disastrous weekend, there are currently no North East cities on the board. Durham, Sunderland, and Newcastle are all a few hundred votes off taking one of the brown squares. We’d like to rally bdaily readers to join in the voting, and put at least one of these cities on the board. There’s also the option to submit your own suggestion for the board, and Keele is currently the highest placed user-submitted location, having somehow risen to Park Lane status.

Although a small contingent here at bdaily Towers is pushing for the Northumberland town of Wide Open to be included, we feel it would be more appropriate to throw our support behind the three cities which already have a good chance. So go to monopoly.co.uk and vote for your choice of the three – let’s try and get all of them on the board!
