Newcastle Brown Ale announces 80th birthday fund

To mark the 80th anniversary of Newcastle Brown Ale, a new fund has been launched to help community groups in the West End of Newcastle. The Newcastle Brown Ale Fund has been set up by Newcastle Federation Breweries in conjunction with the Community Foundation in Newcastle.

Chris Jowsey, Managing Director of Newcastle Federation Breweries, said; “Newcastle Brown Ale has had a strong association with the West End of Newcastle over the last 80 years and the local people have supported us throughout this time, so we wanted to mark this and be able to help put something back into the local community.”

One of the first groups to benefit from the fund is West End based Elswick Harriers, who have received £1,500, enabling the club to continue its work with children aged from 8–18.

Norman Armstrong from Elswick Harriers said: “The money from the fund came as such a massive help to the club, we could really have struggled without the support it’s offered us. We’ve been able to put several people through their level one coaching exams which means we can welcome more people to the club and ensure we can give the best possible training to them.”

The Newcastle Brown Ale fund is available through the Community Foundation and is open to applications from any community groups based in the West End of Newcastle especially any with a specific interest in young people, education and health. The Community Foundation manage funds that have been set up by individuals, families and companies and help them to support their chosen interests.
