North East firm leads videogaming conference
North East gaming companies are being offered the chance to discuss the future of the games industry in the UK at a conference next week. Codeworks GameHorizon, a support agency for videogame companies in North East England, has organised a major new videogames conference being held at York Racecourse on Thursday 10 May focusing on emerging opportunities for UK game makers.
The Northern Exposure 07 conference will feature talks from leading figures in the videogames industry. One of the world’s leading publishers Eidos, casual games specialist MumboJumbo, Introversion and award-winning driving games firm Eutechnyx are four of the companies providing speakers for the conference. The conference will explore how the latest developments in the industry can enable developers to exploit more flexible business models, launch their games directly to market, and put creativity back at the heart of their work.
Nina Cliff, business development manager of Codeworks GameHorizon, said: “Northern Exposure 07 will give the UK’s games community an unmissible chance to find out how they can take advantage of emerging opportunities in the industry from the people and the companies who are already doing it successfully. Spiralling development costs and team sizes in recent years have increased the pressures on studios and threatened their creative ethos. Northern Exposure 07 will investigate how – through new business models and platforms – developers can retain that characteristic sense of imagination and still make a profit.”
