Home care grows region-wide as company expands

A County Durham care business is doubling its staff to cope with the demand from the elderly and disabled who want to retain their independence and live at home. Angel Home Care provides care workers to help people in their own homes with assistance from a few hours a week of housework to six hours a day personal care, assistance with meals and a sitting service. Currently operating across Derwentside, the company will soon be expanding into neighbouring Gateshead and expects to double its current staff.

Company founder Angela Graham said: “Government policy is for people to live in their own homes for as long as possible and we’re helping that happen. But it’s not just a matter of policy – we want people to maintain their privacy, dignity, independence and freedom of choice for as long as possible, which improves their long-term well-being and happiness.”

Keith Race from Business Link, who provided support and advice for Angela, said: “We’ve been advising Angel Home Care since they started 18 months ago. We have worked with Angela on everything from cash flow and geographical market analysis to staff relations and business development. “Demand is growing all the time which creates certain challenges. They need to stay on top of various regulations and ensure maximum efficiency.”

Angela said: “The care is always one-to-one and is real quality time. Our sitting service enables people to get out of their homes with their carers, perhaps to the park, to the pub for lunch or to watch a game of bowls.”
