TV presenter trains arts leaders of the future

TV presenter and journalist, Philippa Tomson, will be advising some of the future leaders of the arts sector next week after being asked to take part in a leadership training scheme headed by the former Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport – Chris Smith, now the Rt Hon Lord Smith of Finsbury.

The Clore Leadership Programme trains and develops future leaders of the UK arts and cultural sector and is holding its media training course at Longhirst Hall near Morpeth in Northumberland on 21 May. Philippa, who presents ITV1’s North East Tonight, will be training candidates in a variety of aspects of the TV industry including how to work with TV news organisations and how to conduct a TV interview.

Every year, since 2004, around twenty fellows are selected to take part in the Clore Leadership Programme and each undertakes a programme of tuition, research, mentoring and secondment designed to develop their leadership skills, knowledge and experience.

Philippa said: “I was honoured to be asked to be part of the training team for the programme as I am passionate about the performing arts, galleries and museums and it’s crucial that we invest in the future leaders of the industry to boost their capabilities and confidence. Understanding the media plays an important role for anyone involved in the arts and I am looking forward to working with the group when they come to the region.”
