Council launches 15-year regeneration plan

Thousands of new jobs and homes as well as improved transport links are planned to boost an area of County Durham. Easington District Council has this week outlined long-term plans for economic, social and environmental regeneration over the next 15 years. These include an additional 4,500 households, attracting businesses to create 5,000 jobs and improving road links between the A19 and the A1. The council’s vision has also been put before development agencies such as OneNorth East, English Partnerships and Government Office North East, and there is also a three-month consultation period for the public to have its say.

Councillor Rob Crute, the council’s executive member for regeneration, said: “This important document will influence regional strategies and help inform the private sector about the work going on in east Durham, so helping to build investor certainty and confidence in the area. “More than £300 million has been invested in the district over the past ten years creating new jobs, homes and business parks, and improving our coast and countryside.

“From the work that is currently going on everyone can see that we intend to build on this success and our vision for 2021 is to create a district where people are proud to live, work and invest in.”
