New investment potential for NE songwriters

A new venture aimed at developing songwriters’ careers in the music industry is being launched in the North East. Sustain is being managed by London-based venture capitalist Anthony Roe, who is planning to discover and develop new talent for the music industry as well as provide them with the business support to allow them make independent decisions. He has been involved in the project for the past 18 months and in that time has been tracking potential artists all over the world to take part in Sustain.

Mr Roe said: “We are going to create a true partnership with the people we choose to work with. “We are currently in contract negotiations with a singer songwriter from the North East, which is exciting for me as it’s where I grew up. “What Sustain will do, is provide all the commercial support required to allow them to be creative and protect their work so that they exist as a business in their own right, and therefore have created a quantifiable value for the business they own should a major company become interested in working with them.”

Once Sustain find artists which they believe have a viable future in the industry they will look after all their interests, including providing the finances necessary to allow them to record, tour and be promoted. The aim is that after 12 months the individual business will be worth five times the amount invested and Sustain will then either negotiate a contract for the artist exclusively with a larger organisation such as a major record company or continue to invest themselves.
