The Baby Showerer moves North
After giving birth to her son Daniel in December 2005 and being inundated with flowers to mark the occasion, former Gosforth High pupil Vicki Stone came up with the idea for a service providing alternative gift ideas for new mums. The Baby Showerer was set up in 2006 to deliver original, practical gifts to celebrate the birth of a new baby. Among the more traditional gifts, such as baby vests and toys, are ‘nappy cakes’; colour coordinated, two tier cakes which are hand crafted out of nappies and decorated with flowers and ribbons.
Delivering this unique product has seen demand for The Baby Showerer increase in the short time since starting-up. Among its achievements include developing a wide consumer base which even stretches into Europe. Originally set up in the Midlands, The Baby Showerer has recently relocated to serve its most loyal customer area.
Former advertising executive Vicki said: “We have found that my most loyal customers come from the North East where I do a lot of the nappy cakes as corporate maternity gifts for businesses in the area as well as for customers’ friends and family.”
The relocation of The Baby Showerer has enabled the business to contribute to a local charity by donating £1 for every nappy cake sold to Tiny Lives at Newcastle Neonatal Services. Tiny Lives is the charity which supports the Special Care Baby Unit at the R.V.I, Newcastle, the Regional Centre for premature and ill newborn babies.
