North East to use research to win new business

Manufacturing, science and engineering firms in the North East are coming together to look at how they can win new business by tapping into large research facilities. Over 70 companies from a wide range of industries, including IT support, construction, electronic systems and project management, are to attend a seminar at Sunderland’s Stadium of Light on Wednesday 20 June. The seminar, organised by One NorthEast in conjunction with UK Trade and Investment and the Sensors Knowledge Transfer Network (SKTN), will demonstrate how companies can target new business through research facilities such as the European Organisation for Nuclear Research in Switzerland.

Speakers at the event include Dan Mistry from UKAEA Culham Division, which helps UK industry win international supply contracts, and Terry Nicklin from SKTN, which focuses on maximising industry opportunities through its work with research facilities.

Patrick Kendell, One NorthEast Investment & Aftercare manager, said: “We’ll be highlighting specific opportunities for all sorts of businesses, from manufacturing and engineering through to IT services. Few companies realise the new business potential of working with research facilities which are often at the cutting edge of science and industry. They can open up numerous avenues for winning new business, especially in international markets. The seminar will not only demonstrate how they can open up new opportunities by working with large research facilities at home and abroad, but also keep them informed about future prospects.”

There are still spaces available for this free event. For information on how to register, contact Gillian Robinson at One NorthEast on 0191 229 6891 or via e-mail gillian.robinson@onenortheast.co.uk.
