Revolution on Hadrian's Wall
A new corporate identity for Hadrian’s Wall Heritage Ltd – the organisation created to manage all aspects of the management and marketing of Hadrian’s Wall – has been designed by Hexham-based r//evolution marketing.
r//evolution marketing, which has been established since 2002 and whose work was recently referred to in the Guardian’s Look North East feature as “a symbol of bright ideas in creative marketing”, beat off stiff competition to win the Hadrian’s Wall work. r//evolution has previously completed corporate identity projects for Cumbria Sport, the North East’s first super car club Vitesse, Sports Volunteering North West and home furnishing outlet The Furniture Gallery in Durham.
Gill Burgess, r//evolution’s director of client, said: “It was a privilege to be invited to develop the new identity, and a task that posed a real creative challenge. The Wall itself is such a significant and historic monument, running for 73 miles from east to west coasts and traversing a diverse landscape, which contains both urban and rural communities. One of the issues for us was to develop an identity which reflects both the forward-looking vision for the area that Hadrian’s Wall Heritage Ltd is developing, and the history associated with a 2000 year old ‘product’. In some ways, though, the tasks were the same. The Romans were seeking to use Hadrian’s Wall as a stimulus for economic development too.”
Vineet Lal, communications and branding director at Hadrian’s Wall Heritage Ltd, said: “The corporate brand identity r//evolution has developed for Hadrian’s Wall Heritage Ltd is distinctive, futuristic and highly relevant to the Wall itself. When it was presented to our board there was universal approval – it seemed to capture the essence of what we are about. When you can achieve that, you can be confident in the integrity of the identity.”
