Sunderland welcomes first international IT conference
An international IT event is to come to the North East for the first time, bringing leading IT businesses and professionals together in Sunderland. As the winner of the Government’s digital challenge competition, the city is about to become a shining example of how new technology can improve the lives of people across the community – and the International IT in the Community Conference 2007 hopes to highlight this, attracting over 1,000 delegates from the region, the UK and abroad.
Based at the University of Sunderland on 5 and 6 July, the conference will be supported by the IT exhibition, IT Works, which will host stands from leading industry suppliers. The conference will look at IT and communities – particularly how some communities, both urban and rural, are reportedly becoming detached from the digital world and what can be done to tackle this.
Chris Laws, project manager for the event at St Peters campus, said: “It’s fantastic that Sunderland has been selected to host such a major event for the IT industry, this provides a great chance to highlight its recent success in the Government’s digital challenge and showcase its plans to tackle social exclusion through digital media.”
Sunderland City Council Leader, Bob Symonds, said: “Sunderland has built up an excellent reputation for its expertise and innovation in ICT over a number of years so we’re absolutely delighted to be hosting the IT Works Conference and Exhibition. Coming as it does so soon after the City Council’s recent Digital Challenge win we see this as a valuable opportunity to share ideas and experiences with other like minded organisations.”
