Newcastle Gateshead lands Conservative Spring forum in 2008
The Conservative Party has unveiled plans to stage their Spring Forum 2008 in NewcastleGateshead. The three-day event will be held at The Sage Gateshead and is expected to attract around 1500-2000 visitors to the region. The Party selected NewcastleGateshead for its first class conference facilities and the excellent choice of hotels, restaurants and other entertainments the destination has to offer.
Francis Maude, Conservative Party Chairman, said: “The decision to bring our spring conference to North East England next March demonstrates the Conservative Party’s commitment to the North East, and underlines NewcastleGateshead’s position as a premier UK destination for business and leisure. Locating our conference on Tyneside will give delegates an opportunity to see all that this area has to offer and to enjoy the renowned warm hospitality of the local people.”
Andrew Dixon, Chief Executive of NewcastleGateshead Initiative, said: “The announcement is great news for NewcastleGateshead and we hope will bring an estimated £1m boost to the local economy. Major conferences like this not only bring investment and support for local businesses, it will also help us to continue to position NewcastleGateshead as a first rate conference destination and showcase the city to a huge international audience.”
The Conservative Spring Forum is set to attract members of national and international media alongside the Party members. Various fringe events will also take place throughout NewcastleGateshead, bringing even more people to the city.
