Bandstand at the Sage
In May this year one of the biggest names in rock officially launched a major fund-raising concert set to take place on Tyneside this autumn to raise funds for Teenage Cancer Trust. Who frontman Roger Daltrey announced the details of Bandstand 2007, which will take place at The Sage Gateshead on 22 September.
The concert, in aid of Teenage Cancer Trust, will raise funds to support young people with cancer across the North East and to help build a new state-of-the-art unit at Newcastle’s RVI. The 6-bed ward is expected to open in late 2008. Last year TCT staged its first large-scale music event outside of London and the sell-out gig at The Sage Gateshead raised more than £50,000 for the new unit planned for Newcastle’s RVI hospital.
Stars who appeared in last year’s show included Jools Holland, Paul Weller, Ross Noble and Johnny Vegas. The 2007 line-up will also include some of the biggest names from the worlds of comedy and music – the full line-up will be announced soon.
Roger Daltrey said, “Teenage Cancer Trust units give our teenagers the moral support to help fight this terrible disease. We need more of them so that every teenager in the UK can have access to one.”
Simon Davies, Chief Executive of Teenage Cancer Trust, said: “We are hugely grateful to all the artistes who give up their time to perform for Teenage Cancer Trust. Without them, we couldn’t hope to raise the necessary funds and awareness we so desperately need. All money raised form Bandstand 2007 will go towards supporting young people with cancer in the North East of England.”
Tickets for Bandstand are priced at £40 and £60. They are available at www.teenagecancertrust.org/bandstand, www.thesagegateshead.org, or by calling 0191 443 4661. As well as buying tickets if you want to support the charity independently or as a business through sponsorship, fundraising events or donations please contact your North East campaign manager gemmasmall@teenagecancertrust.org.
