North East employers contribute to workplace health debate
Employers in the North East will be asked about their views on health in the workplace at an event next week. EEF Northern, the manufacturers’ organisation, and Public Health North East have joined forces to organise the talk-in on Tuesday 10 July. Those attending the breakfast meeting at EEF Northern’s offices in Washington will be asked what would encourage them to get involved in workplace health.
Issues to be considered include what support services should be offered by the region’s NHS; how to persuade staff to take an interest in their own workplace health; and prioritising services that will encourage involvement from employers and employees throughout the region.
Joanne Holborn, Head of legal at EEF Northern, said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for employers to get the support they need. Their involvement is essential – and they will benefit from local services that will help their employees to deal with issues such as smoking, mental health and substance misuse.”
The North East Workplace Health Group is developing a statement of priorities which designed to bring together the agendas of those who can improve the situation. The idea is to give the region’s businesses a network of support services to help improve health in their workplace.
Employers wishing to contribute to the debate should contact Joanne Holborn at EEF Northern 0191 4165656 or email joanneholborn@eefnorthern.org.uk.
