Fresh success for food manufacturer
A North East food manufacturer is successfully attracting national interest from leading supermarket giants with the extension of its fresh-chill food facility. Kavli Ltd, based in Team Valley Gateshead, is the name behind the popular squeezy cheese brand, Primula, and the Castle MacLellan pate brand. It opened the new facility in May 2006 to capitalise on strong market growth in fresh, short shelf life prepared foods with the help of grant funding from One NorthEast.
The introduction of the ‘Hi Care’ facility is part of an investment initiative undertaken by the company to grow sales by £5m over the next three years. Following the initial launch of fresh dips under its Weight Watchers License, Kavli has recently won new business supplying retailer brand products.
Craig Brooks, Marketing Director, said: “Everyone involved has been very focused and worked incredibly hard. We now have a range of fantastic products from the new Hi Care facility that meet the exacting standards of the UK’s leading supermarkets. We are all delighted with progress so far and look forward to capitalising on fresh opportunities for growth.”
Kavli launched three new lines for a major retail customer in May 2007 and initial sales levels of the pates and sandwich fillers have exceeded expectations. The range of fresh dips for slimming brand, Weight Watchers, has also been expanded with the recent launch of a humous dip containing 4% fat, compared to a typical humous at 30%.
