In the news: Heather Hopkins from Hitwise released some information on the rise of Entertainment as an internet search category. Their findings suggest that YouTube could overtake BBC.co.uk in share of UK visits within a matter of weeks.
The European Commission has launched a dedicated channel on YouTube to make its audiovisual material more widely available to the public. Currently, users can watch approximately 50 video clips on a wide-range of topics.
We all rely on and welcome advice from friends, family to make purchase decisions. More and more internet users are now seeking advice from complete strangers via social networking platforms and review websites. By eMarketer’s latest estimates, over 25 million US adults regularly share advice on products or services online.
Rave of the week: I came across the news on e-consultancy that Yahoo! introduced a new service that allows advertisers to customise display ads to internet users’ age, gender, location and online behaviour. The system will initially be launched for travel clients but Yahoo! said it will be expanded by the end of the year. Exciting stuff for all online marketers.
Rant of the week: The word “blook”, meaning a book based on blogs, was recently accepted as a real word by the latest edition of the Collins English Dictionary. Please!
